Appalachian Folk Medicine, Cures & Remedies  [Page 5]

Jewelweed

Jewelweed is an effective natural herbal remedy not only for poison ivy, but also for poison oak, okra spines, stinging nettle, and other irritating plants.

Steep jewelweed in apple cider vinegar, then apply directly to the affected areas. Repeat when itching returns.

In harsh cases you can apply the juice from the stem directly to severely irritated areas.

Jewelweed can also be used to treat mild digestive disorders. Poultices and salves from Jewelweed are a folk remedy for bruises, burns, cuts, eczema, insect bites, sores, sprains, warts, and ringworm.
