Appalachian Folk Medicine, Cures & Remedies  [Page 9]

Hieracium venosum (Rattlesnake weed)

Also known as Rabbit’s ear and Hawkweed, these flowers are common in the Appalachian mountains and found along the roadsides crisscrossing the Great Smoky Mountains.

Combining Rattlesnake weed, Mint leaves, Star flower, and Water lily you can make a poultice to treat rheumatism.

The roots and leaves of the Rattlesnake weed are stimulating and astringent, and are said to arouse outward circulation that can treat uterine hemorrhage, excessive menstruation, bleeding piles, spitting of blood and other bowel complaints.
