Who is the 12th Doctor?
Just announced by the BBC, veteran actor Peter Capaldi has snagged the lucrative role as The Doctor. Capaldi had been firmly established as the favorite out front of other Doctor Who contenders, including Daniel Rigby and Ben Whishaw.
Capaldi began his acting career over 30 years ago and has had roles on a number of BBC programs. Perhaps best known for his foul-mouthed portrayal of Malcolm Tucker in the BBC comedy The Thick of It, how Capaldi will approach the role and how he will leave his mark on the 50-year-old franchise will be an interesting adventure.
He is no stranger to Doctor Who, having scored a small role on the show previously as the wealthy Pompeiian Caecilius during David Tennant’s run in 2008. He also appeared as recurring character John Frobisher in Doctor Who‘s sister show, Torchwood.
Capaldi debuts as the 12th Doctor alongside Matt Smith and David Tennant in the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, set to air November 23rd.
He officially takes the reins of the Tardis in the annual Doctor Who Christmas Special, which airs Christmas day. Whether he will retain Smith’s bow tie remains to be seen.
So… what do you Whovians think of this choice? Good, bad, indifferent? Who were you pulling for?
